WOYWW 174

Another Wednesday is upon us and it's time to join in the biggest blog hop in craftland - it's What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday, hosted by the lovely Julia over at her Stamping Ground blog.

My desk this morning is actually fairly productive...

I've been having a play with some pretty new oriental Kanban stamps that I picked up the other week. Aren't they pretty?

However, lovely as my new stamps are, I am even more excited about another new purchase which arrived today....

Check out *this* little beauty! :)

Yup, I have finally had enough of struggling to take decent photos of my projects in the murk that passes for daylight in this country! Even in the conservatory, which gets huge amounts of natural light, I've often struggled with accurately capturing the colours of my projects. So I've taken the plunge and splashed out on a snazzy lightbox.

I've had an initial play and I have to say I am really impressed with this! It cost me less than £30 off Amazon and comes complete with two lamps and a mini tripod for the camera.. and it all fits into a smart carry case.

I've had a quick very quick play with it...

This is a photo of my card taken on my craft desk with the daylight lamp:

And this is the same card photographed in the lightbox. Pretty good eh? Much more natural lighting. :)

I'm entering this card into the Classy Card Sketch Challenge at Classy Girl Musings. When I saw the sketch it immediately put me in mind of these new stamps and I knew just what I wanted to do with them. :) I used a Nestie die to cut a circle from a piece of card and used it as a mask to brush Distress Ink onto white cardstock using an Inkduster brush. I also drew around the inside of the mask using a Stampin' Writer pen and then stamped the images (Kanban stamps) and the sentiment (Stampotique) using Black archival. I also added a touch of Glossy Accents to some of the flowers.

I have been thinking about a light box but gave in to just buying some foam board and making one of my own. It works well with the new lights so can't complain. Like you I am really surprized at the difference in the photos! Have a great week. Vickie http://okienurse.blogspot.com

Your workspace looks so inviting, almost as if it ready for anyone to have a play.......your card is stunning and love how you use a shaving brush (I think) to put the colour on, it certainly looks even. I would love to have a light box but it is at the bottom of a huge list of 'wants'. Happy WOYWW, Anne x #13

I agree with you about the photo studio Ali but I had one and ended up giving it to my brother. My pictures were definitely better when I used it but I had nowhere to leave it up and it was getting on nerves keep having to get it and put it away again each time. Hope you have more patients than me, Lol.

Loving your new stamps. There seems to be a craze for Oriental at the moment. Have you seen the new Lily of the Valley ones, they are so sweet?

Happy Crafting!

Wow - that little lightbox is amazing - I am really tempted. We were just saying we need better pics for our Sisters Crafty Creations blog shop. The difference in your 2 pics is amazing. x Jo

Love the card design! I never think of masking anymore, but that was such a go-to technique when I first started crafting. I struggle with good lighting to photograph my cards too. There just is no good solution. I don't have enough flat space anywhere for a nice set up like yours. I can get nice photos outside but that assumes I think of it during the day!

Wow, that lightbox makes such a difference - that's a great set of kit for £30!! I really like the card you've made as well, simple and elegant :)
I know what you mean about getting sucked into a different craft - that's why I just do not want to start stamping etc. I love what everybody does on WOYWW, I just don't want to do it myself!!
