An Emotive Topic

I finished this art journal page a few days ago but I've been hesitant about sharing it on here... the reason being that the topic this page refers to is an emotive one, and one that people tend to hold strong opinions on... and I genuinely don't wish to offend.

But I made this page because, after reading a lot about it online, the subject was something that was really really weighing on my mind and I needed to get my feelings down on paper. This page doesn't say half of what I think about this, and what I've read about this, but it does get the general gist down.

So if you have very strong pro-life feelings then I do apologise for any offense my feelings on this subject may cause... and perhaps you should click away now. I do understand and to a certain extent sympathise with the pro-life stance... but I also believe strongly in a woman's right to autonomy:

This page is mostly done with Promarkers. I started with the idea of using my TH Sewing Room die to create a "mannequin" figure (using some stars and stripes paper I had lying around) and then drew some "realistic" arms and legs onto it and coloured them with Promarkers (I think that image alone sums up my feelings/concerns relating to this topic). I then doodled the borders and "title" and hand wrote my journalling. Then I coloured everything in with Promarkers and added some highlights with metallic Promarkers and a white gel pen.

Go you Ali, I'm with you all the way. I'm not particularly pro-abortion but would defend a woman's right to choose any day! I've wrestled with this one myself - and unlike you haven't yet had the courage to share the page I made about how I feel about the burkha!! ps Nice to see somebody else journalling with Promarkers too!

it is a great page and like you say an emotive subject and one that I doubt will ever be resolved. I wish just common sense could be used and that rules or laws could be more flexible to take account of the multitude of situations that each woman finds herself in when becoming pregnant.

That is an incredible page Ali. Very emotive, but then with that subject matter it is bound to be. To terminate a pregnancy will never be an easy decision for any woman to take, even in circumstances where there is no alternative, but it has to be her decision and hers alone.

Wow - you are a brave woman! I am very proud of you. The page rocks with its color, perfect images, and heartfelt words. Very powerful. I have to say that I believe strongly that the government should bow out of this one. I don't support abortion, but I don't support the government (via the Supreme or any other court or any legistative body) making it illegal for women who want one. I have seen and read about all the back room abortions that went on before it was legal to have one - horrible stuff. The directions our government takes and our mob mentality go awry sometimes, but I have to say that for the most part, it is great to be a woman in America. Kudos on your journal page - thanks for sharing your heart!
