Pop Goes Christmas!

Anyone else remember those "Pop Goes..." albums? Pop Goes Mozart? Pop Goes Beethoven? No? Just me showing my age then... ;)

 

(P.S. My dad had those albums... I'm not *that* old! :lol:)

 

Anyhoo, Pop Dots & Layers is the theme of the current challenge at Dilly Beans Designers & Friday Challenge blog and this is the card I made for the challenge:

 

 

I used this sweet Amalia's Christmas Lights image and had a bit of a play with some different techniques... I paper-pieced her dress (by the simple expedient of taping a piece of patterned paper to a piece of A4 copy paper and printing the digi image a second time onto that paper), coloured the rest of her with Promarkers, and for the christmas lights I printed the image a third time, onto plain white card, coloured the lights with Promarkers, added highlights with a white gel pen and then covered them in Glossy Accents before cutting them out and attaching to the main image using foam pads:

 

 

I decorated the card base with christmas themed papers and a die-cut snowflake frame.

Baby, It's Cold Outside!

It really is. I had to defrost my car again this morning, and had to break out the hat and gloves for the school run!

 

So the frosty colours on this card are quite appropriate!

 

 

I used one of Rick St Dennis's fabulous images - this one is called Brigitte. I coloured her in shivery shades of blue and decided she looked so fabulous that I wanted to keep the card quite clean and simple so as not to overpower her.

 

So I simply spritzed Perfect Pearls spray over a swirly snowflake mask and cut a snowflake flourish with my Cameo and layered that behind the image. I handwrote the greeting.

Geisha Girl

It's digi Wednesday over at the Sweet Pea Stamps blog.

 

For my card this week I used Connie Fong's adorable Yuki image:

 

 

This little geisha is so cute and she's just lovely to colour in. I coloured her with Promarkers and a white gel pen for some highlights. I decided to try something a bit different and made a little diamond fold card which I decorated with pretty oriental-themed papers from K&Co.

 

 

I cut out Yuki and attached her to the card using foam tape for added dimension and finished things off with a filigree butterfly cut with my Cameo.

Sassy Steampunk

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I've been doing a lot of colouring of digi stamps lately. The nights have gotten cold and dark and my sofa is just too darn comfortable so when I can't manage to lever myself off the sofa and into the craft room I compromise by sitting on the sofa and colouring digi stamps as I watch TV. :)

 

Whenever I print a digi that I want to work with I tend to print a whole sheet, to save wasting cardstock, so I will usually fill the sheet with various other digis, meaning I always have a stock of printed images waiting to be coloured.

 

One of the ones I coloured recently was a recent acquisition from Sassy Studio Stamps - this cute little steampunk lady:

 

 

I bought a few Sassy Studio digis a while back but hadn't had chance to play with them yet... but this one was on one of my printed sheets so I had a go at colouring her in with my Promarkers. Isn't she fun?

 

 

I used the image along with some Kanban steampunk-themed papers and some cogs cut with my cameo to make a steampunk tentfold card.

 

I also added a little metal swallow charm that I had hanging around the craft room:

 

 

And I decorated the inside of the card too, using more of the papers and cogs and an embossing folder.

It's official. I'm addicted. :)

 

Ever since getting the new Cameo set up last week, I haven't made a single card without using the Cameo to cut something for it! :lol:

 

Last night was no exception... I had a really productive evening, making three cards, two of which can be seen on the desk in this morning's photo, and all of them featured embellishments cut with the Cameo:

 

 

I'm having so much fun with this machine! I love being able to cut fab designs in whatever size I want and without having to get up from my seat at the crafting area. :) It's so quick and easy! I also got the machine at just the right time as until last weekend everything in the Silhouette online store was half price - so I snagged a whole load of fab cuttable images at bargain prices. :D

 

Other than playing with my Cameo, I've been doing a lot of colouring of digi images lately. When the nights are cold and dark and the sofa is comfy and the fire is on, it can be hard to drag myself into the craft room... so I compromise and sit and colour digi stamps on the sofa. Which is probably why I was able to do three cards last night because I had a bunch of digi's coloured and ready to work with. :)

Anything Goes!

I coloured him with Distress Markers, to keep with the vintage feel, and used some steampunk-themed Kanban papers and a Stampin' Up! sentiment stamp.

 

 

And I made a christmassy card using Rick St Dennis' sweet Silver Belle image:

 

 

 

I recently picked up this Cheery Lynn window die and was really taken with the idea of putting this cute little angel in front of a window with a view to a winter sky outside... as though she were sneaking into a living room on Christmas Eve to hang a bauble on the Christmas tree. :)

 

So I chose a paper with a vaguely wallpaper-y pattern and I used Inktense pencils to colour the evening scene outside the window... and added some little dots of glitter glue for a starlight effect:
